Whats the attraction for us in terms of a Canary Islands package holiday? Well, the Canary Islands, as we all know, enjoy an amazing climate. This is because of their location just off the coast of Morroco, North Africa. This climate produces near constant temperatures all year round and makes the canaries particularly popular with North Europeans looking for some holiday sunshine without breaking the bank! the Canary islands are made up of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Palma, Gomera and Hierro. The islands are not in fact named after the canary songbirds, the name comes from the latin for dogd “Canis” as the first settlers to the islands found them inhabited by fearsome hounds!

At this time of year especially ( article written Feb 08) Scotland can be a grey and depressing place! The Glasgow skies can be a bit dour to say the least and the weather is cold enough to worry brass monkeys! So many os start thinking about Holidays, Glasgow to Spain is just a quick short haul flight and just thinking about escaping the Glasgow climate for some almost guaranteed sunshine seems to good to be true.

Granada is the Alhambra palace (1338 to 1390) and the gardens, the Cathedral, the Royal Chapel, convents and monasteries, the old islamic district Albayzin where the sunset is famous in the world or the Sacromonte where the gipsys perform flamenco shows in the caves where they used to live. Granada is all this and much much more.
The name Alhambra comes from an Arabic root which means “red or crimson castle”. Alcazaba is the oldest part of the Alhambra, reconstructed upon the ruins of a castle in the 9th century. The most solid towers are those of the Homenaje situated to the south, and the Quebrada at the northeast angle.
